Crop Walk 2011 was held November 13.
We walked up Daytona Beach,
starting at the Drive-In Disciples of
Christ in Daytona Beach Shores on
A1A. It was a 5 mile walk!

CROP Walk, here in Daytona Beach,
is an annual beack walk to raise funds
to assist local and over-seas poverty. Walkers ask for pledges and donations.
25% of these funds stay locally in
the Daytona Beach area. 2011's local receipient is HUM (Halifax Urban
Ministries). The remaining monies this
year are going to build fresh water wells
overseas where women often walk 4 or more hours a day just to get drinking water, only to walk back 4 or more hours carrying the water home.
A bit of info & history:
**Church World Service, which began in 1946, started CROP Walk in 1947. Crop at that time was an acronym for Christian Rural Overseas Program.
**CROP Hunger Walks in 2011 expect nearly $4 million to be raised for food banks, pantries, community gardens, and other local efforts across the U.S.
**CROP Hunger Walks are ecumenical, interfaith, multi-cultural events.
