HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO... US!
Our Church is 109 years old! We were founded in April 26, 1901 as a house church on Beach Street. A brief 13 years later, in 1914, the first building at 326 S. Palmetto Ave. was outgrown. $5000 was needed to build a new and larger church, a sky-high sum for a congregation of 87 people whose per household income averaged under $60 per month!
But the building was raised only a year later in 1915 -debt free.
Giving in those times was the same act of faith in God’s provision as it is in our times. Stepping out in faith is a matter of trusting God above oneself or one’s current situation. As our congregation ages, we as ’younger adults’ (under 50) need to learn to trust God to the degree our FCC predecessors did. The continuation of this house of God (FCC) depends on us, everyone must give. May their past trust in God inspire us to do likewise. Birthday gifts to FCC can be made payable to First Christian Church, memo line: Birthday Gift. Cash gifts, please notate Birthday Gift on the envelope. And, yes, by all means you may give more than one Birthday Gift to our Church!
