Call to Worship     [Jacqueline Curtice]
L:       Come and find your place
at the welcome table of God.
P:      Come and worship God,
whose wide open arms greet us.
L:       Come and offer thanks and
wonder for the bounties of God’s love.
P:      Come and offer a place to those
    in need of such hospitality.
L:       Come, that you may go out filled
    and full of power.
P:      Come, that you may go out in
    grace-filled service.

Prayer of Adoration and
the Lord’s Prayer (in Unison):   [Jacqueline Curtice]
Gracious God, our helper, we seek the assurance of your presence in this time of worship. We have come to listen and to receive y our counsel. Melt our stubborn hearts to remove the barriers that keep us from seeing your glory and doing your will. Challenge all that is worthless and unprofitable in our lives, that we may become worthy imitators of Jesus Christ in whose name we offer this prayer…
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Children’s Moment with Reverend Troxler

Scripture   Luke 14: 1, 7-14
Sermon     Look Whose Coming to Dinner!

Prayer of Confession (Responsively):   Reverend Troxler
L:       We aim to carve out a reputation,
to find a place of honor in the world.
P:      Help us to serve consistently and
compassionately in the Christian way, O God.
L:       We aim to listen carefully to our friends
and family members, but we talk about ourselves.
P:      Help us to concentrate on the other person, O God.
L:       We aim to enthusiastically support the community
of Jesus Christ, but other priorities get in the way.
P:      Help us to see and understand the need for
    Christian values, O God.
L:       We aim to speak out against poverty and
injustice, but our lifestyle betrays the words we say.
P:      Give us the courage to practice justice and
    simplicity, O God.
L:       We aim to grow as disciples of Jesus, but it
is more comfortable to stay with the tried
    and tested realities.
P:      Help us to go through the process of
    questioning and doubt, O God.

(Time for silent reflection.)

Assurance of Forgiveness:   Reverend Troxler
L:       You call us to account, O God, for pride
    and self-interest are ours.
P:      We will reflect on the needs of the powerless
and disadvantaged, rather than our own.
We will reflect on how we can serve, rather
than how much we can get.
We will hear another out, before we offer an opinion.
We will judge slowly, and forgive generously.
L:       Humility led Jesus all the way to a cross.
It is not an easy way for you.
P:      It is the way of peace for us.
L:       Thanks be to God!
P:      Amen.
